‘Oops. I did it again”

Oops….

I try to watch out for unexpected freezes, but sometimes they still catch me by surprise. I should know better by now. I’ve killed many bulbs over the years by leaving pots outside during a freeze. But honestly,  this last time was really not my fault.

I had been digging and edging after a cold spell. I was so excited to just be outside.

I dug up a large amount of Sternbergia, and accidentally left them out in the cold.

Then it froze.

Then I brought them inside to stimulate roots in water.

Then I put them back outside to drink up the sunshine.

Then it froze again.

Dang!!!! (This is a perfect time for a gardener to cuss)

As of right now, the bulbs are spread out nicely on my driveway, much to my husband’s dismay. The bulbs are warming up with compost coveting the bulb. Dirt and garden soil is everywhere. I’ve managed to kicked a few pots too.

My best hope is that I have not killed all the bulbs. I will now wait and see. Half are promising. A few have definitely surrendered.

Hopefully,  I have learned my lesson….again.

Happy Gardening, my friends.
